Oak Forest Illinois Weather
CHICAGO (WLS) - The National Weather Service confirmed that a dozen tornadoes touched down in the Oak Forest, Illinois, in a rare severe weather event known as derecho, according to a statement from the agency. At least one tornado with an estimated top wind of 110 miles per hour was confirmed to touch down, the National Weather Service in Lake County, Illinois, confirmed.
The tornado moved in the area of Oak Forest and swept 4 to 9 miles into the Schuberts Forest Preserve, the NWS said. The tornado continued its east journey to South Chicago Heights and then moved south into Lake County, north to the Chicago River and south to Lake Park.
The wind speed of the tornado was estimated at 95 km / h and classified as EF1 with a road width of 30 metres. EF-1 Came in northern IL from Camp Lake in Kenosha County to Lake Park in Lake County and then in the second second second south to the Chicago River.
As the derecho roared east, 12 more tornadoes landed in northern Illinois, including an EF-2 tornado near Oak Forest, IL, and a tornado with winds of 95 mph. A single supercell thunderstorm developed in western Illinois and moved eastward as far as Lake Michigan. The National Weather Service's surveyors say a total of 15 tornadoes are touching down.
